Teaching Philosophy

Every student is an individual, and private flute lessons honor each student’s unique needs and goals. Instruction is student-led; that is, I prompt and facilitate discoveries, but the student is empowered by their own conclusions. Through this process the student learns how to self-assess, which requires active listening and engaged participation in their learning and flute playing.

My goal is to cultivate within my students a lifelong love for music, curiosity for learning, and eagerness for life! I strive to make music relevant in students’ lives no matter their professional pursuits.

I just love Indigo! She is calm and kind to my daughter. She helped my daughter improve her tone quality and made her a better flute player. I trust Indigo to do what’s best for my child.
— Denise, parent
Indigo is always patient during lessons, and I know I took lots of patience. She is a good teacher and explains things in a simple way I can understand. Indigo is very nice and plays the flute very well. I think she is my favorite flute teacher.

I have truly enjoyed having Indigo as my flute instructor. She always checked in on how I was doing whether it was flute related or not. She helped me improve in the technical aspects of playing the flute which I had previously struggled with. And I have come to love practicing and playing on my own because of her!
— Julia, high school student
Indigo is very encouraging as an instructor. Our daughter never felt pressured in a bad way that made her want to not practice or play her flute, and that’s a testament to Indigo’s passion for teaching and great attitude while dealing with students. Excited to see how she succeeds in the future.
